A sad day: Sparky leaves

September 23, 2008

A taxi pulls away from our Athens hotel this morning, as Sparky starts his trip home to San Francisco. I’ll soon return to Ibiza for several more weeks before I, too, head home. We’ve had a wonderful time on our Mediterranean adventure. But all good things must end.

Seeing the sea: Blogging will be light today

July 9, 2008

I’m touring Ibiza with friends this afternoon, so I won’t be able to post as frequently. (I like blogging, but I’m not entirely crazy!)

Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll: I’m off to a late start

July 4, 2008

Sparky and I kind of tied one on last night (I don’t spend all my time blogging on Ibiza!), so I’m only now catching up on e-mail and today’s news here at my office-away-from home, Chill Cafe. Friends from San Francisco and London arrive tomorrow, and I’ve got to scrounge around for tickets to the Flower Power party Sunday night at megaclub Pacha. (Paraphrasing Deborah Kerr in Tea and Sympathy: Please be kind to me today . . .)

Gone fishing

May 31, 2008

I hope to resume blogging by early-ish next week, once we get settled in our summer ’08 rental on Ibiza. What’s it like there? The New York Times maps out 36 hours on the Mediterranean island. Written in November for off-season travelers, it’s also a nice introduction for newcomers.

Hola: Gannett Blog global HQ nears move to Spain

[Dalt Vila: a picturesque walk in Ibiza’s old fortress city]

This will be my last day of blogging until perhaps Monday, when I figure Sparky and I will be mostly settled at our summer rental on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. I’ll do my best to monitor comments and e-mail over the weekend. (OMG! I just remembered what I forgot: Monday is Sparky’s birthday!)

Ibiza: With so many distractions, will I blog?

May 17, 2008

[Just like TV reporters: we print people never look this good]

Yikes! It’s now T-minus-14 for Sparky and yours truly: Two weeks from today, we leave for the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. We’ll be spending the summer studying Spanish, seeing friends and goofing off — which leads to a reader’s question I got today. Here’s the answer: I’m definitely planning on Gannett Blogging all summer long.

Ka-ching: I got another severance check today. Thanks, Gracia!

Countdown: Where we’ll be living this summer

May 1, 2008

Yikes! Today’s May 1, which means Sparky and I now have just four weeks to get ready for a temporary move to Spain, where we’ll study Spanish and engage in assorted, wholesome (hah!) hijinks on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. (I might even do some blogging.)

What it looks like to walk away after 20 years

January 14, 2008

Yours truly and the proverbial cardboard box with my treasured mint julep cup, a gift from my wonderful co-workers at The Courier-Journal when I left in 2000. This was around 1 p.m. today in USA Today‘s downtown San Francisco bureau. I had stopped by after learning I could get credentials to blog from Macworld, the big Apple hoo-haw kicking off tomorrow here in San Francisco. (I’m already weary of all the stories referencing black turtleneck shirt and jeans.)
