No sale in Daytona after blog said deal imminent

Updated at 7:23 p.m. Oct. 17, the day of the purported sale announcement. Nothing yet on the paper’s website about a new owner.

The Unofficial Daytona Beach News-Journal Blog, which has been tracking the Florida paper’s pending sale, carried a comment saying a deal was due — amid speculation Gannett may be a bidder. “All I can say is, I sure hope it’s not Gannett,” a Daytona blog reader replied. “Take it from a Gannett employee.”

It makes a lot of sense for Gannett to be interested in DBNJ, at least from a geographical stand point, but Gannetts current financial situation may prevent this from taking place.
In the past Gannett was all about monopoly in certain areas, and DBNJ certainly fits that mold, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Gannett actually do buy them.

Perhaqps we'll now have the REAL explanation for that $1.2 billion LOC:

  3. Fred Ziffle Says:

According to the unofficial DBNJ blog: An extension was requested and grant giving the parties until March 09 to sell.

Either no bidders or the bids were too low.
