For Louisville meeting, your questions for Dubow

CEO Craig Dubow and newspaper division chief Bob Dickey are taking questions from employees during a meeting reportedly scheduled for Friday at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky. Gannett Blog readers are posting questions they’d like Dubow to answer. Among them:

Q. Economists seem to agree that the United States is heading into a very bad recession. With the diminished revenues, will there be further large-scale layoffs or do you have a new vision for this company that will allow us to survive the bad times?

What a terrible question. I already can imagine Dubow’s answer: “Well, Johnny, we don’t have any vision, and you should expect hemorraging job losses starting tomorrow.” How about something a little more specific. For example: Craig, we’ve been producing online news videos here at the Courier-Journal for more than a year now, but we haven’t had a video advertisement in months. What’s up with that?

Q: Would you consider a pay cut to save jobs and see your transformation become a reality for Gannett?

I vote for question 2 (“Would you cut your pay?”) Extend it to senior management at Gannett papers.

How about flying coach to save money now that the stock is under 12 bux, ya there yet Craig?

And why go to Louaville. Something on your mind about that property? Now I remember, you don’t have the burbs there like Indy, Nashvegas and the Queen City. Hmmmm.

Dubow is coming to Cincy for the same thing Friday before making his way to Louisville. I doubt there will be any questions.

    I have three questions:

    1. What is Gannett’s long-term plan for the paper?

    2. Sports is looking to fill two positions. Do you approve, or disapprove?

    3. How many in the newsroom are going to even HAVE a job at the end of the year? By next spring? Summmer? Fall?

  7. Anonymous Says:

When was the last time you spent a whole day in a newsroom?

  8. Anonymous Says:

Q: Do you read the Gannett papers?

    Please rate your own performance (A, B, C, D or F)

Here’s an easy one, As the CEO of Gannett – What in the hell were you thinking when you sent the “Stand Down Gannett” email ealier this year regarding the Gannett blog? No CEO in their right mind would do that.

However, I would like to thank you for doing so. If you had not, I would have never known about the blog!

Is there a severance package in place for you? If so, what are the terms?

What was the reasoning behind laying off over one hundred of your senior managers? Were they not some of your most loyal employees? Aren’t they the ones who always did what you asked them to do? What are your plans when some of these newspapers Circulation, Production and IT departments begin to melt down within 6 months or so?

  13. Anonymous Says:

When is this meeting supposed to be today…I am waiting to hear the, ahem, “answers”.

  14. Anonymous Says:

4pm in Louisville. We’ve been looking over the above questions to help form our own!
