even at the senior levels.”

    Jim,

Do you really think this passes the smell test for a believable comment?

Yes. But I don’t assume the individual doubled their income immediately. I also don’t assume that they left for a same-size paper; they may have taken a job at a larger newspaper. In either case, that would suggest greater opportunity elsewhere.

Your sniffer seems a bit off on this one but it certainly looks good on the front page.

    Jim,

sorry to disappoint those that didn’t have the balls to leave but there are many others at the senior level who have left GCI for much better positions (both in pay and certainly in quality of life). Yes, the TOTAL compensation nearly doubled. Not too hard to do when GCI compensates those at the pub level with a lot of emphasis on stock options and bonus. Ummmmm….stock options? worthless. been that way for several years. Bonus?? cut by a big margin. Even at the pub level, we found it fascinating that we would be given the bad news on options and bonus levels while those like SCJ seemed to keep moving up the money ladder with more this year then the last. Sorry disbelievers…sad but true. I remember a time when GCI was an industry leader in pub pay. That changed about 7 or 8 years ago which is why you now see mid level managers suddenly being named pub.

5:38, I believe I know who you are and I can vouch for what you’re saying. Any openings where you are?

I do know who you are and can’t fathom how you doubled that already inflated pay. But more power to you.
